CERES, Calif. – Freshman Alyssa Gutierrez won the Invitational 5-kilometer race with a time of 17 minutes, 8.9 seconds; Emilia Ryan led four Troubadours among the top five in the frosh-soph 2K, while Mia Hollar led a second varsity squad to victory in the Small Schools race, as St. Francis dominated the field at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational at River Oak Golf Course Saturday.
This is one of two meets in which the marquee races are held under the lights, along with the Woodbridge Classic on September 20.
Gutierrez led six runners from six different schools to crack the 18-minute barrier in the Invitational event, but St. Francis crossed its Nos. 2-5 scorers in succession from eighth through 11th place. Sophomores Halle Welch and Miya Menza finished eighth (18:07.0) and ninth (18:18.3(, respectively. Senior Chloe Harrison followed in 10th (18:28.7) with junior Sunny Schranz shutting the door in 11th (18:33.8). Rebecca Dickson was the No. 6 SF finisher and top displacer in 13th (18:45.1), then Sophia Kadel came through in 19th (18:50.9) as the second displacing finisher.
In all, St. Francis compiled scoring of 1-4-5-6-7 for 23 points, well ahead of second-place Vacaville (82) and third-place Vista Del Lago (95).
Earlier in the evening, Ryan went 7:38.3 to win the frosh-soph race, with only Modesto's Roselynn Dominguez preventing a 1-2-3-4 St. Francis superfecta. As is, Alyssa Tafoya (7:46.7), Violet Panton (7:49.1) and Celeste Ramos (7:50.5) entered the finish chute in third through fifth places. The Troubies won that event with 25 points, with Maclynn McCurdy completing the score in 12th (8:09.1). Vacaville and Lincoln of Stockton battled for second and third places at 63 and 72 points, respectively.
As of midnight Saturday evening, official results were not available for the small-school varsity race, but it is reported that Hollar, Holly Thorall and Bianka Bagatelos respectively placed third, fifth and seventh to lead SF to the team win.
St. Francis entered three in the junior varsity 2K, with Lucy Loverich leading that crew in sixth place at 8:09.2.
The Troubadours return to action in their lone weekday meet of the year, the Sierra Foothill League center meet at the SWRA at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
