ROCKLIN, Calif. – Freshman Alyssa Gutierrez won the marquee "Soiree" girls' heat with a time of 10 minutes, 26.8 seconds, while the relay foursome of Miya Menza, Sophia Kadel, Sunny Schranz and Halle Welch captured the opening 4xmile relay at 23:17.4, leading St. Francis at the Soiree at SWRA cross country meet at the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area Saturday.

The meet consists of multiple 3-kilometer heats for both girls' and boys' runners, culminating with the fastest race – dubbed the Soiree Heat – at the end of the day.

Gutierrez, who won the frosh-soph race at the Lagoon Valley Classic one week earlier, led three Troubadours in the top six in Saturday's final race. Welch crossed in 10:58.9 while Menza was a few steps behind in sixth with a 11:00.2 clocking. Furthermore, Gutierrez anchored an all-frosh squad in the four-mile relay to start the day. Holly Thorall, Bianka Bagatelos and Rebecca Dickson joined her with a 23:55.5 combined time for third place.

Other top Troubie finishers in the Soiree section included Schranz in 16th at 11:13.3, Dickson in 19th (11:16.3) and Bagatelos in 20th (11:21.0). The meet did not feature team standings, but St. Francis would have tallied 41 points (1-4-5-14-17) to Oak Ridge's 49 (3-10-11-12-13) had the Soiree race been scored.

The Troubies return to action in week at the Kim Duyst Invitational at River Oak Golf Course in Ceres. Named for the legendary Stan State coach, the Duyst Invite is the first of two cross country meets held at night under the lights. The frosh-soph girls' 2K kicks off the meet at 5:15 p.m.
