Barge's triple leads comeback over CB

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore pitcher Kaili Heeb hit 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while senior second baseman Isabella Barge launched a bases-loaded triple to complete a comeback from a four-run deficit, as St. Francis snared an 8-6 win over Christian Brothers in non-league girls' prep fastpitch action at Schuster Field Saturday.

This marked the fourth straight Troubadour win in the rivalry series known as "Holy Diamond," with SF improving to 10-12 for the year. The Falcons also move to 10-12 overall.

Junior third baseman Jocelyn Villaflor chipped in another 2-for-4 at the plate, with Alexis McFarland and Elizabeth Bettar also providing hits. Barge's three-bagger marked the lone Troubie extra-base hit, in contrast to CB, which had only three singles among its nine hits but also committed five errors.

The Falcons established an early 3-0 lead, with Isabella Sheppard and Lillie Warren each pounding doubles in the first. Junior catcher Mackenzie Aurich knocked a third CB double with one out in the second, then batterymate Alana Berry launched a two-run homer to left.

Heeb and Villaflor began the Troubie second with hits, but it was not until the third that St. Francis got on the board – mostly with help from its guests. Bettar reached on a two-base error, scoring McFarland, then advanced on a wild pitch. Heeb grounded out to the shortstop Warren, who had no choice but to concede the run and go for the out at first. However, Warren got those runs back in the three-run Falcon fifth, when she hammered a two-run blast to center. That increased CB's lead to 6-2.

Still, the Falcons' struggles in the field loomed even larger in the bottom half of that fifth. Infield errors allowed SF freshman right fielder Lillyana Perkins and Jensen to reach, with a Bettar grounder through the hole scoring Perkins. With the deficit reduced to 6-4, Heeb and Villaflor loaded the bases with back-to-back singles, bringing up Barge. The Yale commit laced a line drive that CB left fielder Taylor Jernigan attempted to corral with a diving effort. Instead, the ball rolled to the track, allowing Jensen, courtesy runner Julia Nielsen and Villaflor to come around. Junior Annika DeWaal later came in to replace Berry in the circle for consecutive outs, but the damage was done – SF now held a 7-6 lead.

Heeb allowed a hit in each of the sixth and seventh runs but no more CB runs came through. Meanwhile, Heeb helped her own cause with a base knock through the middle, scoring McFarland for an insurance run in the sixth.

Barge's triple represented her third of the season and the ninth overall by St. Francis. She needs one more to become just the ninth player in the MaxPreps era to collect four in a season, joining a list that includes record-holder Mady Lombard (2006), Claire Krotine (2025), Mary Baccay (2016), Alexis Viramontes (2014), Mel Baccay (2015), Danika Bailey (2015), Sydney Littles (2016) and Chloe Smith (2017).

Additionally, the three RBIs marked her 19th, 20th and 21st of the year, moving her ahead of Jensen for the team lead.

St. Francis turns around to host Granite Bay for continued Sierra Foothill League play on Monday. The Troubies-Grizzlies matchup was originally slated for April 22, but moved back by five days due to inclement weather. First pitch is 4:30 p.m. at Schuster Field.
