ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior catcher Jocelyn Villaflor hit 2-for-3 while infielders Arielle Alcantar and Hazel Pryor each ripped doubles but St. Francis fell in extra innings, 3-2, against former Delta League rival Sheldon in a non-league prep softball contest at Mary Jo Truesdale Field Monday night.
Both the Troubadours and Huskies even their respective records to 1-1.
Villaflor led off the third with a single to ignite a two-run rally for St. Francis. Alexis McFarland followed with a hit before Pryor moved up both teammates with a sacrifice bunt. Marissa Jensen brought in Villaflor on a comebacker to Sheldon pitcher Micah Kennedy, then Reese Lewis' sacrifice fly to center plated McFarland.

The Troubies held that 2-1 lead into the seventh inning. Jensen hauled in a line drive before doubling up senior Jordyn Munana at third to kill a Husky rally in the fourth. In the sixth, SF starter Kaili Heeb surrendered back-to-back singles and faced two runners in scoring position before coaxing a pop-up to herself. Heeb then got Grace Harding to bounce a 2-0 pitch to Alcantar, escaping another jam.
Sheldon tied the game in its seventh on an RBI hit from Natalia Aguilar. St. Francis stranded the bases loaded in the eighth. Jensen reached on an error to start the frame. Lewis then bunted automatic runner Pryor to third, with Jensen following to second. Two batters later, Isabella Barge walked to jam the bases full. However, Sheldon pitcher Kwinci Brown got through the inning without a run thanks to a pair of strikeouts.
Then in the bottom half of the eighth, Brown helped her own cause by lacing a double to left, easily scoring the automatic runner, Angelina Guzman, for the walk-off.
Heeb went the distance for St. Francis, surrendering seven hits and the two earned runs in 7.2 innings.
Monday's game begins a run of three straight Troubadour contests against former Delta League foes. Elk Grove will visit St. Francis Schuster Field on Wednesday, then the Troubies finish the week at Franklin on Friday. Both games start at 3:30 p.m.
