EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Seniors Abigail Benavidez and Miranda Ferguson each netted two goals while senior Piper Brostrom found the back of the net in the extra frame, but St. Francis fell in a 9-8 overtime heartbreaker to Oak Ridge in the girls' varsity portion of a Sierra Foothill League water polo quadrupleheader at the El Dorado Hills CSD Pool Wednesday night.
The Troubadours slip to 7-4 in league play with a 16-8 overall mark. They continue to hold third place in the league behind Davis (10-1) and Granite Bay (10-1) but also three games ahead of the fourth-place tie of Rocklin (4-7) and Del Oro (4-7). Meanwhile, the host Trojans move to 12-14 for the season, including 3-8 in SFL games.
St. Francis led 5-4 at halftime and 6-5 through three quarters, with goalkeeper Sophia Santsche-Chavez tallying 11 saves and all four of her saves through the first 21 minutes. However, Oak Ridge outscored SF in the fourth, with Brostrom assisting Addison Hutchcraft for the lone Troubie score, forcing overtime.
Frannie Wells and Emma Dietrich also scored for St. Francis, with both coming in the first half. Overall, the Troubies collectively shot just 2-for-15 in the third and fourth quarters.
The SF junior varsity finished off the overall four-game set with a 13-8 loss to the Trojans. Savannah Hamilton and Kendal Douglas each performed hat tricks while Ava Jack added two goals and three assists. Hamilton also had five of her team's seven steals in the contest. Freshman goalie Sasha Michon posted 11 saves and a steal.
Both Troubie squads conclude their regular seasons at Davis on Monday. The JV begins the quadrupleheader at 4 p.m. with varsity following at 5 p.m. at Arroyo Park (2000 Shasta Drive in Davis).
