Douglas' hat trick caps action at JV Jamboree

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Freshman center Kendal Douglas netted two goals in the opener and a hat trick in the team's finale, as St. Francis junior varsity lost games to Oakmont and McClatchy on Day 2 of Granite Bay's JV Jamboree girls' water polo tournament Saturday.

The Troubadours lost to the Vikings, 14-3, in the morning match; then wrapped up their weekend with a 15-6 setback to CKM. The 14-team event featured teams from throughout Northern California, with the Troubadours happening to draw the Lions for the second time in as many weekends.

Sophomore Della Smith scored the remaining goal and assisted on one of Douglas' two scores against Oakmont, while Adrianna Perri assisted both Smith and Douglas. Then in the nightcap, Douglas hit all three of her goals in the third quarter. Two came from Smith feeds into two meters, while the hat trick goal was the finish on a counterattack from Isabella Leyva with 1:50 to go.

Leyva scored pair of goals of her own in the afternoon contest with the Lions. She bombed away from the 3-4 spot on the Troubies' first possession in the second quarter, then later converted a long outlet from Gabriella Philip in the final minute of the fourth.

Douglas also did her part by drawing two exclusions in the second quarter against CKM, although St. Francis was unable to convert. The Lions stole a pass soon after the kickout on the first chance, while Leyva's shot sailed high on the second power play.

Freshman Sasha Michon played all 24 minutes in net for each game, finishing with save totals of eight and four, respectively.

Both St. Francis varsity and JV teams return to action against Granite Bay in SFL play at Jesuit. The varsity plays at 6 p.m. with JV following at 7 p.m.
