Troubie jayvees open Rio Classic on winning note

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Frannie Wells posted team highs of four goals and three steals while freshman Sasha Michon tallied 11 saves for the second straight game, leading St. Francis to a 10-6 win over host Rio Americano at the Rio JV Classic girls' water polo tournament Friday night.

The Troubadours improve to 2-16 for the season.

Wells was one of three players on loan from the SF varsity squad, along with freshmen Emma Dietrich and Audrey Ellis, who each scored one goal. Sophomores Maya Wenceslao and Savannah Hamilton matched Wells' three steals. Wenceslao added two goals, with Hamilton providing a goal in two assists.

Another highlight belonged to froshie Bonnie Cohen, who scored her first career goal as a Troubadour.

The 10-6 win illustrates the progress of the St. Francis JV team, which opened the season with a 13-5 loss to Rio back on September 4. The six goals against represents the lowest of the season.

The Troubies continue play at the Rio Classic on Saturday, facing Granite Bay at 10 a.m. and McClatchy at noon.
