SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Della Smith and freshman Kendal Douglas netted goals in each of losses against Granite Bay and host McClatchy's B entry in the CKM JV Opener girls' water polo tournament Saturday. The Troubadours lost to the Grizzlies by a 22-2 final, then fell to the Lions, 10-4, before playing an exhibition game with Rio Americano to wrap up the day's action.
Smith and Douglas hit both of their goals in the fourth quarter against Granite Bay, which held a 12-0 lead at halftime and a 19-0 edge through three quarters, mostly on counterattacks. Douglas, Smith, Gabriella Phillip and Ava Jack had the scores in the loss to CKM at midday. Jack also had two steals as did sophomore Savannah Hamilton.
St. Francis jayvees rejoins their older varsity sisters in the Sierra Foothill League opener at Rocklin on Wednesday. Game times are 6 p.m. for varsity, 7 p.m. for JV.
