Randall breaks school 200 record at Sac MOC

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Alexa Randall won the Invitational 200-meter dash at 24.31 seconds, breaking Cekarri Nixon's school record of 24.34 from the 2010 Sac-Joaquin Section Masters prelims and highlighting St. Francis' delegation at the Sacramento Meet of Champions held at American River College Saturday.

Nixon did run a 24.29 at the 2009 Masters meet but with a tailwind of plus-4.2 meters-per-second, meaning the wind assistance negated the time as a record. Instead, she set the Troubadour record of 24.50 at the 2009 state championships, then registered a 24.34 at the maximum legal tailwind on May 28, 2010 – a benchmark that lasted for almost 16 years.

Fast forward to Saturday, and Randall faced winds blowing from the southwest, meaning a 1.4 mps headwind on the straightaway. Despite the hinderance, she still surpassed Nixon's old best by three hundredths of a second. Randall entered the MOC ranked 22nd in the state, thanks to the 24.39 she ran at the Capital Invitational one month earlier.

After Randall, the next two runners in the SF record book – Nixon and Ugo Eke – both went on to run for UC Davis. Coincidentally, the No. 4 runner on the list, Sydney Hunter, was a special guest on the St. Francis campus earlier in the week. Hunter, who competed at UC Riverside, now stars on the revived American Gladiators competition show.

In addition to Randall's win in the evening session, the 4x800 relay squad of Sophia Kadel, Mia Hollar, Miya Menza and Bianka Bagatelos won the Open edition of the girls' 4x800 relay with a time of 9:30.06. This surpassed the crew's previous best of 9:33.21, set at the Arcadia Invitational one week prior, and moves them from No. 6 to No. 4 in the school record book.

Two SF entrants in the Open girls' 3,200 enjoyed huge personal bests. Senior Chloe Harrison cut more than 14 seconds from her previous PR to finish sixth at 11:31.49. Sophomore Emily Colonnello improved from 11:37.22 to the seventh-pllace 11:19.75 Saturday afternoon. Both runners had set their old bests at the Bronco Roundup in early March.

Freshman Rebecca Dickson also hit a PR in the Open girls' 800, placing seventh with a 2:24.38, cutting more than a half second from her 2:24.96 from the season-opening Inderkum Invite. Meanwhile, Bianka Bagatelos matched that finish in the evening Invite race. Her 2:18.76 Saturday night trails only the 2:17.67 she posted at Holy Spikes to start this year's spring break. Finally, Mia Hollar slashed more than 18 seconds from her 3,200 PR with a 11:06.94 in the Troubies' final race of the meet.
