ROCKLIN, Calif. – Freshman Alyssa Gutierrez posted a sizable personal best to win the girls' 1,600-meter run, junior Jasleen Gandhoke dominated the field in the 100 hurdles and senior Antonija Jezildzic won the shot put to claim three varsity event wins for St. Francis at the second Sierra Foothill League center track & field meet, hosted at Rocklin High Wednesday.
The meet is a triple dual to help determine league standings, with each event scored on a head-to-head basis with the other member schools. In this case, St. Francis took on Whitney, Oak Ridge and the host Thunder. However, scores are not yet available due to missing results from the long jump.
Gutierrez won the 1,600 with a time of five minutes, 1.49 seconds. She improved on her previous personal best of 5:04.27, and now moves her into 10th on the school's all-time performance list. Gutierrez already ranked second in SF history among St. Francis freshmen, with Cate Joaquin holding the program frosh record with her 4:58.62 at the 2019 Stanford Invitational. Gutierrez also finished second in the 800 with a 2:19.77 on Wednesday, behind only Whitney's Kaylee Smith (2:16.40).
Gandhoke won the 100 hurdles with a slightly wind-hindered time of 15.20 seconds, well ahead of runner-up Nina Souto of Whitney (16.85). It also represents her best performance in that event since she hit a PR of 15.00 at the 2025 CIF Masters Meet. Gandhoke faced a 0.5 meters/second headwind in the SFL meet, compared to the stronger – yet still legal – 1.5 m/s tailwind from last May. Gandhoke already ranks fourth in school history in each hurdles event.
Meanwhile in the shot put ring, freshman Abigail Carrothers beat the JV field so decisively that her winning throw of 31 feet, 5 inches outperformed the enter varsity competition. Senior teammate Jezildzic won the varsity division with a 30-5 push, two inches ahead of Oak Ridge's Amalea Roppo. Carrothers, who previous went 28-9.5 at the first SFL center meet, is now just the fourth freshman in program history to surpass 30 feet. All three of the previous Troubies to hit that milestone did so at the 2011 Delta River Valley championships: Kayla O'Brine (32-8), Imani McCray (32-3.25) and Caroline Boals (31-4.5). O'Brine later went on to throw for UC Santa Barbara while Boals rowed at USC.
Carrothers' first place was one of five JV wins for the Troubies. Freshman Holly Thorall won the 1,600 early in the meet with her 5:34.54 to lead a 1-2-3 team sweep with Emily Colonnello (5:36.10) and Sophia Hernandez (5:49.27). Freshman Celeste Ramos led a mostly SF field in the JV 3,200 with her 12:47.12, with Emilia Ryan (12:52.64), Giuliana Allen (12:57.18) and Abi Wallace (14:23.65) joining her in a 1-2-3-4 superfecta.
Cassidy Butler captured the JV pole vault for St. Francis with a 7-0 leap, while joining Carrothers and winner Emmy Cheatham in a 1-2-3 trifecta atop the discus throw standings. Cheatham went 73-8, Carrothers followed with a 58-7 with Butler not far behind with a 57-3 toss.
Long jump results will be available at RedCapTiming.com and/or Athletic.net as soon as they are obtained.
St. Francis track & field splits up for the upcoming weekend, with distance runners headed to the Bay Area for the Dublin Distance Fiesta on Friday and Saturday. Closer to home, McClatchy will host the Capital Invitational at Sacramento City College's Hughes Stadium, also on Friday and Saturday, with the Troubies boasting 30 entries in the select field. Diablo Timing hosts results for the Dublin meet with local legends Red Cap Timing handling the Capital Invite. Links to each can be found at GoTroubies.com.
