Troubies head to Colfax to kick off SJS playoffs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis earned the No. 11 seed and will travel to No. 6 Colfax for the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls' basketball championship tournament, as announced by the section office Saturday. The game takes place on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Troubadours enter the playoffs with a 10-15 overall record. The Panthers closed out the regular season at 21-7, winning the Pioneer Valley League with a perfect 14-0 mark.

The majority of St. Francis offense comes from a trio of players, including two freshmen. Senior Lexi London, who netted her 1,000th career point against Rocklin, leads the way with 16.9 points to go with 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Her 440 total points ranks fifth in the school's MaxPreps era, just 10 away from surpassing Kyra Huffman Freshman Elise Vipond follows at 13.7 ppg, while Hassanah Ramsey-Gilbert's 8.4 ppg goes with a team-high 8.6 rpg. London and Vipond also combined for 105 three-pointers during the regular season.

However, the Troubadours have largely highlighted its season for its defense, with Natalia Zitelli and Colleen Medina posting steals totals of 65 and 54, respectively. Vipond (56) and Ramsey-Gilbert (54) also averaged more than two steals per contest, with Ramsey-Gilbert entering the postseason with 51 blocks. The SF post ranks fourth in the program's recorded history, with Lauren Craig owning the top three slots on the leaderboard.

Colfax has enjoyed an equally potent offense and defense, outscoring opponents by an average of 58-36. Senior Madalyn Sigrist leads the Falcon offense at 14.0 ppg, with three other players turning in at least eight per contest: Belle Chu (8.6), Claire Piper (8.6) and Maya Smiley (8.1). Sigrist, the league MVP as a sophomore, also paces her team in rebounds (137), assists (78), steals (89) and blocks (19).
