Troubies fall late against Chaminade to close WCJ

DUBLIN, Calif. – Freshman Elise Vipond scored 18 points with three three-pointers while senior Lexi London added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, but St. Francis surrendered 12 unanswered points in the final five minutes of play to drop a 60-50 final to Chaminade in the Ruby consolation final of the West Coast Jamboree at Dublin High Tuesday.

The Troubadours will enter the Sierra Foothill League portion of their schedule with a 6-5 overall record. The Eagles improve to 4-9 for the year.

St. Francis fell into a 16-6 hole in the first period, fought back to within a 25-20 hafltime deficit then regained a 32-31 lead on a Hassanah Ramsey-Gilbert trey with 4:41 left in the third. The Troubies extended their lead to as much as 46-38 when Keanna Daneshvar set up London for an open three with nine seconds left in the third. Chaminade reclaimed the advantage early in the fourth, only for a Natalia Zitelli drive and a Colleen Medina fast break to restore the SF edge to 50-48 with 4:33 left in the contest.

Unfortunately for the Troubies, the Eagles pulled away to their 12-0 run down the stretch, with Cryssi Smith and Mya Patrick each striking from outside the arc in that finish. Patrick finished the game with 24 points, including six corner threes. Smith tallied 19 points, all after halftime.

No other individual statistics were available as of press time.

The 24th-annual West Coast Jamboree featured eight-team tournaments scattered throughout the Bay Area, with the entirety of the Ruby bracket taking place at DHS.

St. Francis returns to action at home on Monday (January 5) for the SFL opener against Del Oro. JV Red begins the tripleheader at 4:30, follwed by JV Gold at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
