Varsity trio earns All-SFL, frosh-soph wins 2-mile at league championships

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The trio of Miya Menza, Sunny Schranz and Halle Welch earned second-team All-Sierra Foothill League honors while sophomore Mia Hollar led four Troubadours in the top 10 toward a frosh-soph team title, highlighting St. Francis action at the SFL Cross Country Championships at Jessup University Saturday afternoon.

The Troubies finished fourth as a team in the three-mile varsity race with 113 points, edging Granite Bay by three and finishing behind Whitney (42), Oak Ridge (53) and Davis (78) for the league banner. Del Oro (148), Rocklin (202) and Folsom (233) then finished behind the Grizzlies for the team competition.

The freshman Menza crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 42.1 seconds for 15th place, sophomore Schranz finished one place and one tenth of a second behind at 18:42.2, with freshman Halle Welch placing 18th at 18:48.8. The top 10 runners in the varsity race earn All-SFL first-team distinction, while the 11th through 20th finishers make the second team.

Freshman Sophia Kadel was the fourth Troubie into the chute at 30th (19:43.9) while Mykaela Le rounded out the SF scoring in 40th (20:20.4). Lucie Pickering Pick and Ashley Sexauer displaced for the Troubies in 44th and 47th, respectively.

Le, Pickering Pick and Sexauer were also among eight total seniors who were honored as part of St. Francis' Senior Day celebration prior to the frosh-soph race. The class comprises those three, Kyra Lueras, Ashlyn Smith, Zoe Smith, Stella Davenport and Olivia Charles.

Prior the varsity race, St. Francis dominated the girls' frosh-soph two-mile run, with all five scorers coming through among the overall top 10: Mia Hollar in second (12:09.1), Emilia Ryan in third (12:15.1), Emily Colonnello in sixth (12:25.8), Sophia Hernandez in ninth (12:45.3) and Morgane Bertran in 10th (12:57.7). Lydia Stralen and Skye Smith accounted for the displacing No. 6 and 7 SF runners in 12th and 17th places, respectively. As a team, the SF frosh-soph amassed 30 points, with Davis (82), Del Oro (85) and Whitney (87) engaged in a tight battle for the next three places.

St. Francis heads to the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section meet in Angels Camp on November 9. The top 10 varsity teams and top six JV and frosh-soph teams will move on to the SJS championship one week later. The SFL has a chance to sweep the top three girls' divisions in the section meet, with strong representation in each: Oak Ridge, Folsom and Davis in Div. I; Rocklin, Whitney and Granite Bay in Div. II; plus St. Francis and Del Oro in Div. III.
