ROCKLIN, Calif. – The frosh-soph foursome of Sunny Schranz, Halle Welch, Miya Menza and Sophia Kadel combined to form a second-place 4xmile relay then crossed as the top St. Francis finishers in the marquee "Soiree Heat" at the inaugural Soiree at SWRA Distance Festival at Sunset Whitney Recreation Area Saturday.

The new meet takes place at the site of the lone center meet for the Sierra Foothill League, of which the Troubadours are a new member. The meet name is a play on the informal pronunciation of SWRA, or "swara." The event consisted of boys', girls' and coed 4xmile relays followed by a series of three-kilometer races. The finale for each of the boys and girls is dubbed the "Soiree Heat," and features the meet's fastest runners.

Schranz, the lone returnee from last year's CIF state qualifying squad, crossed the finish line in 11 minutes, 52.3 seconds for 10th place overall. Welch and Menza finished 14th (12:0.26) and 18th (12:09.9), respectively. Kadel placed 32nd, leading a pack of SF finishers in succession: Chloe Harrison (33rd), Lucie Pickering Pick (34th), Lily Fowler (35th), Mykaela Le (36th) and Ashlyn Smith (38th).

Schranz ran the third-fastest race among 10th graders, trailing only Whitney's Eva Soto (11:33.1) and Davis' Norah Feldt (11:38.3). Similarly, Welch crossed as the No. 3 ninth grader in the field, with Whitney's Kaylee Smith (11:53.4) and Christian Brothers' Alena Potter (11:59.0) just a few places ahead.

The top individual finishers in each heat earned commemorative T-shirts. Sophomore Mia Hollar won the third heat at 12:41.1, with Sophia Hernandez not far behind in fourth (13:08.2). Emily Colonnello (12:44.6) and Emilia Ryan (13:02.1) took third and sixth, respectively, in Heat 4. Alyssa Tafoya led the Troubies in the second heat with a fifth-place 14:18.4.

St. Francis returns to action in a week for the first of two evening meets, the Kim Duyst Invitational, hosted by Stan State at the River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres. The Troubies will then return to the SWRA four days after that for the SFL center meet.
