Cassidy leads return of Troubie dive action

STOCKTON, Calif. – Sophomore Stella Cassidy compiled 172.40 points to lead the St. Francis foursome at a non-league prep diving meet at St. Mary's Cortopassi Aquatics Center Thursday afternoon.

The meet also featured competitors from Christian Brothers, Lodi and the host Rams, and consisted of a standard six-dive dual program but was held more similar to an invitational, with no team scoring involved.

Cassidy finished less than a dozen points behind overall winner Francesca Avansino of St. Mary's, who totaled 183.65. Sophomore Piper Bates finished just behind in third at 163.35, while Troubadour freshies Audrey Solander and Sadie Favreau placed sixth (111.70) and eighth (82.30), respectively.

Cassidy posted 30 points in each of her final three rounds, including 32.20 from her 104B, or forward 2.0 somersaults, pike position, on the fourth dive. Bates overcame a tough start, to hit 31 or better in each of her final rounds. She also had her best score in the fourth round, going 33.00 on a 104C (forward 2.0, tuck).

Thursday's meet marked the first action for Troubie dive since taking part in a Bella Vista-CB dual back on March 26. Furthermore, getting in a meet at St. Mary's should pay dividends for later in the season: the Sac-Joaquin Section championships take place at Cortopassi on May 4.

St. Francis diving resumes Sierra Foothill League competition on Tuesday with a double dual at Oak Ridge with Granite Bay. Note: this meet was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but moved up a day. It now coincides with the SF-OR-GB swim meet, running at Granite Bay starting at 4 p.m.
