DAVIS, Calif. – Sophomore Piper Bates broke the double-century mark for the second straight week as St. Francis outscored host Davis, 9-7, in the girls' 1-meter diving portion of a Sierra Foothill League dual swimming and diving meet Wednesday.
Bates finished with a 203.33 to finish second behind Blue Devil Violet Watts, who notched a winning 213.90. Sophomore Stella Cassidy (172.80) and freshman Audrey Solander (124.95) finished in third and fourth, respectively. Freshman Sadie Favreau completed the Troubadour lineup with her sixth-place 82.58.
Wednesday's score follows up the career-high 209.55 Bates hit against Folsom and Whitney on Thursday. It also marked the second straight week she enjoyed her biggest push on a 403C–inward 1.5 somersaults, tuck position–in the fourth round. Bates totaled at least 33 points on four of her six dives in the dual format, with her 7.0-bingo awards resulting in a 35.70 on a 103B (forward 1.5 pike) in the second round.
Bates led Watts through four rounds, although the Davis standout went 44.55 on her 403C to pull within a 143.85-141.08 deficit of Bates entering the fifth. Watts then hit a 31.88 in the fifth before nailing a 40.95 total on her final dive to clinch the event win.
St. Francis diving returns to action in its lone "home" meet of the year, a dual against Christian Brothers at American River College on March 18.
