Troubie LAX opens 2026 season in dominating fashion

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Freshman Gillian Hamm's double hat trick led four Troubadours with at least three goals, sophomore Skye Smith paced her team with five assists while freshman Britten Sires halted six Panther shots in her career debut in the crease, as St. Francis opened its 2026 varsity lacrosse season with a 19-4 win at West Park Wednesday night.

Offensively, Hamm finished with six goals, senior Jade Abalateo added another five, senior Keira Miles netted four goals to go with a game-high 12 draw controls, with Smith chipping in three goals along with her assists.

Oddly, the Troubadours started slow on the attacking end. Abalateo cut through the left side to convert a Miles assist just 40 seconds after the opening draw, then surrendered Boston Reid's equalizer at the 9:40 mark. Smith fed Hamm's first goal with 5:55 to go in the first to regain the lead, then led a 4-0 finish to the quarter. Smith assisted Abalateo on back-to-back goals, then drove for a goal of her own—all in a span of 50 seconds, thanks to Miles' work on the draw.

St. Francis extended its lead to 7-1 early in the second when Bridget Beard scooped up an errant clear attempt near her team's offensive restraining line, then took the ball straight to the net with 9:59 to go. Miles got on the board for her first goal in the 19th minute to boost the Troubie advantage to 8-1. Reid ended the Panthers' scoreless streak in the final minute before halftime, scoring on a goal that Sires appeared to have stopped but was ruled as a goal.

The Troubies enjoyed a run of five unanswered down the stretch of the third quarter, with Abalateo providing highlight-reel content with her behind-the-back eight-meter score with 1:39 to go. Hamm completed her double hat trick in the fourth, scoring on a feed from Lizzie David at the X with 10:24 on the clock, then winning a draw control and going straight to the cage at the 2:05 mark.

St. Francis' junior varsity squad had the night off, with the Panthers not fielding a JV program this year. Both Troubie teams return to action with the Sierra Foothill League opener at Rocklin on Tuesday. JV starts at 5:30 p.m., with varsity's first draw slated for 7:15.
