JV volleyball places seventh at Stockton Classic

STOCKTON, Calif. – St. Francis junior varsity went 2-2 against four Northern California powerhouse programs to finish seventh at the 17th Stockton Classic girls' prep volleyball tournament Saturday. The Troubadours, now 22-3 for the season, competed at the Bear Creek site with the top-rated teams in the field.

St. Francis opened with a 25-20, 17-25, 15-7 loss to San Ramon Valley, then swept Campolindo by scores of 25-23, 25-16. That put the Troubies into the 'B' bracket for fifth- through eight-place in the tourney. They lost in straight sets to Archbishop Mitty, 25-17, 25-22, before sweeping Pleasant Valley, 25-14, 25-19.

For reference, Campolindo's varsity was last year's North Coast Section Division I runner-up, having edged SRV in five sets to get to the championship. Archbishop Mitty is a 14-time CIF state champion, owning the last two NorCal regional crowns. Pleasant Valley ranks fourth in the Northern Section by MaxPreps, and finished third and first in the last two CIF-NS Division II tournaments, respectively.

The Stockton Classic consists of JV, frosh and varsity tournaments. This weekend's JV event had the 12 teams at Bear Creek, with the remaining field competing at Lodi, Edison, Weston Ranch and Franklin.

All three St. Francis squads return to action on Monday in a Sierra Foothill League home tripleheader with Del Oro: frosh at 4:30, JV at 5:30 and varsity at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at GoFan.co as usual, with video streaming to the NFHS Network.
