ROSEVILLE, Calif. - St. Francis senior Safaa Umar defeated Gregori Highs Sarah Knowles by scores of 6-4, 6-2, then lost to No. 2-seeded Roxana Shahi of Rocklin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section singles championship tournament, sponsored by Les Schwab Tires and hosted by Johnson Ranch Racquet Club.
Troubadour head coach Kristi Spector, who has coached Umar for four years, commented that her senior singles standout "fought hard" in the loss against the section's second seed. Furthermore, Umar had some fan support as teammate Juliette Irwin made the drive to Roseville in time for the second-round match.
This closes out Umar's prep career and ends the Troubles' 2021 season. St. Francis fell to Granite Bay in the first round of the team bracket on Monday. Meanwhile, Umar advanced to the SJS individual tournament after finishing as the Delta League runner-up one week earlier.
