ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior Aniyus Pierre won a 10-8 tiebreaker to complete a split-set win at No. 1 singles while the tandem of Caroline Niethammer and Lucy Phillips scored the win at No. 1 doubles, leading St. Francis to a 9-0 win over Elk Grove in Delta League girls tennis action Thursday afternoon.
The Troubadours finish the league season with a 9-3 record. The match was a makeup date for the previously scheduled visit from October 21, which was postponed due to rain.
Pierre and Evelyn Cortez were the only Troubadours to head to a tiebreaker, as all other SFHS wins were settled in straight sets. At No. 3 singles, Allie Dinh dispatched Brenda Vang in a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while the No. 2 senior doubles pairing of Erin Davis and Ella Dichiara also won with a similar double-bagel outcome. The No. 3 doubles pair of Kavya Benush and Anna Dinh dropped only one game in their 6-1, 6-0 win.
The Troubie tennis team now heads into Sac-Joaquin Section postseason play, which begins at home sites on Monday. The official seedings will be announced on Friday afternoon. Check back at GoTroubies.com for playoff updates.
