ELK GROVE, Calif. — The St. Francis High tandem of freshman Tatum Walbeck and junior Allie Dinh advanced to the semifinals of the Delta League doubles championship, hosted at Laguna Valley Sports Club on Friday. Both Troubadour tennis players earned all-league distinction for their achievement.
Walbeck and Dinh rolled through the Elk Grove pairing of Xandrei Miguel and Zoe Rocha in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0; then defeated Davis High's Natalie Hersch and Alena Voss in the quarterfinal before falling to Pleasant Grove's team of Hiya Lohia and Bei Wu by scores of 6-1, 6-1 in the round of four.
Lohia and Wu had previously eliminated SFHS' top duo of Lauren Lai and Chloe Garcia in the opening round. Meanwhile, the Troubie tandem of Ayahna Gonzales and Juliette Irwin also lost a first-round matchup to Cosumnes Oaks' Sara Alshaer and Rachel Liang, 6-4, 6-3.
Friday's tournament was a rescheduling of an event originally slated for Wednesday. However, the draw was pushed back to allow for the Delta League singles championship. Senior Safaa Umar advanced to the title match of that bracket to pick up all-league accolades.
St. Francis now enters the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section tournament, having learned it will host Granite Bay for a first-round match at Rio Del Oro Sports Club on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
