ELK GROVE, Calif. -- Freshman guard Sydney Teoh scored 20 points while freshman post Aubrey O'Donnell added nine points and a team-leading 10 rebounds to boost the JV Gold to a 55-14 win in the opening game of Saturday's Delta League doubleheader at Cosumnes Oaks. Then in the nightcap, sophomore post Chidera Okoye notched a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds but St. Francis came up on the losing end of a 53-48 loss to the Wolfpack.
The varsity moves to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the JV Gold improves to 13-3 for the year.
St. Francis varsity trailed by as much as 33-21 midway through the third quarter, whittled away to take a 46-44 lead with under three minutes left in the fourth, but CO made its free throws and hit a three down the stretch to take the win.
Sophomore Brianna McGahan added 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds to fall just shy of a double-double of her own. Guard Emily Dusel chipped another nine boards and Carolina Ingenito snared six of her own in helping the Troubies hold a 48-30 rebounding edge. However, CO drained 10 three-pointers to its guest's four, and committed just six turnovers compared to SF's 16 miscues.
In Saturday's opener, the Troubies led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter and 27-4 at halftime. Point guard Mackenzie Tan sank four buckets for another eight points and Eva Karamanoukian drained a three-pointer in the first-quarter onslaught as part of her seven tallies.
Saturday's doubleheader was a make-up date from a previously scheduled meeting on January 11. Both teams return to action on Tuesday for a Delta League twin bill at Pleasant Grove.
