SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Sophia Santsche-Chavez and Miranda Ferguson each represented St. Francis on the All-Sac-Joaquin Section Division II honor roll, the area coaches announced on Friday. Santsche-Chavez made the first team as the lone goalkeeper, while Ferguson garnered recognition on the second team.
Additionally, Santsche-Chavez was named to the NISCA All-America watch list.
The coaches and an area selection committee chooses an MVP, a top goalie, a first team and second team for each of Divisions I, II and III. From there, a top 20 from across all three divisions are named to the NISCA All-America watch list. The final roster of NISCA High School All-Americans, which honors athletes from fall, winter and spring seasons, will be announced in the summer of 2025.
Santsche-Chavez finished her final season with 305 saves against 180 goals for .629 success rate and a goals-against average of 6.6 (762 minutes). Among her best games: 10 saves with two goals allowed in the SJS playoff opener with Golden Valley, 13 stops in a 12-0 shutout against McClatchy, plus a season-best 23 blocks in a 7-6 overtime victory against Del Oro. Santsche-Chavez also shared the team lead of 26 assists, ranked second on the squad with 47 assists and managed to net four goals of her own.
Ferguson led the Troubadours with 61 goals while adding 16 assists and 26 steals in 26 games. She posted 12 hat tricks, including a six-goal performance against Sanger at Granite Bay's Grizzly Classic, plus five goals each against Bella Vista, McClatchy and Golden Valley.
St. Francis finished 17-10 overall in its second season under head coach Gaby Hawkins, and its first year as a member of the tough Sierra Foothill League. The Troubies finished second at the 46th Western States tourney in mid-October, which helped secure a No. 3 seed in the SJS Division II playoffs.
