SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior goalkeeper Sophia Santsche-Chavez posted 19 saves while senior center Abigail Benavidez netted three goals in the second half, helping St. Francis pull away to a 6-2 win over Del Oro in the girls' varsity portion of a Sierra Foothill League quadrupleheader Wednesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 6-3 for the year and 3-1 in SFL play, moving into a tie for second place with Davis. The Golden Eagles slip to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in league action.

Santsche-Chavez halted five shots in the first quarter, three in the second, four in the third and a whopping seven in the fourth for her 19 saves, which raises her season total to exactly 100. She also had two assists, the first of which helped Emma Dietrich put SF on the board in the second frame, and three total steals.

Senior Miranda Ferguson also notched a goal and assist for the Troubies, which battled their hosts to a 1-1 tie before exploding for four tallies in the third, good for a 5-2 lead heading into the finale. Ferguson assisted Benavidez for the insurance goal in the finale, while Santsche-Chavez sealed up the SF cage en route to the win.

The Troubie junior varsity fell 9-1 in Wednesday's finale, with freshman Kendal Douglas accounting for the lone SF goal. Sophomore Savannah Hamilton had two steals in the contest, with freshman Sasha Michon earning six saves. St. Francis trailed by just one (2-1) after the opening six minutes, but DO poured in five goals in the second to pull away toward the victory.

St. Francis resumes league play by kicking off a three-game homestand against Oak Ridge on Monday. In the interim, varsity will compete in Granite Bay's Grizzly Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Troubies take part in the American River College site, facing Monte Vista at 3:50 p.m. and McClatchy at 7:05 p.m. Friday night; then switch to the GBHS site for a Saturday afternoon tilt against Sanger at 12:20 p.m.
