Rocklin edges Troubies in final minutes of soccer showdown

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Senior Miley Blough fired a team-leading five shots while junior Norah White added four, but St. Francis surrendered an 11-1 shooting defict in the second half and ultimately gave up a goal in the 79th minute to fall against Rocklin in the varsity portion of a Sierra Foothill League girls' soccer tripleheader Tuesday night.

The Troubadours slip to 9-4-2 for the season and even their league record to 3-3-2. The Thunder completes a season sweep over SF in improving to 8-2-1 overall with a 6-1-1 SFL mark.

St. Francis enjoyed the majority of chances in the first half, with Blough and White leading the Troubies to a 9-4 shooting advantage. Junior goalkeeper Millie Katzeff made a pair of saves, including one on a counterattack in the 19th minute. Madeline Squaglia and Lacey Harmon also made key defensive players to halt Rocklin opportunities.

However, that momentum largely shifted to the host Thunder, with sophomore keeper Mia Rabinovitz facing 10 shots, including four on goal, for the first 38 minutes of her work. Finally in the 79th, Rocklin earned a corner kick against which SF initially defended. Then a long serve from senior Isla Sieber back into the box made contact with the heads of not one but two Rocklin teammates–the second of which soared past Rabinovitz into the net with 1:30 remaining.

Harmon had the lone SF shot attempt after the break, missing high in the 74th minute.

Both St. Francis Red and Gold junior varsity squads played to 1-1 draws, although no other information is available on either contest.

All three Troubie teams return to action for a home set against Folsom on Thursday. JV Gold leads off at 3:30, followed by varsity at 5:30 and JV Gold at 7:15 p.m. at Cristo Rey's Adamson Family Sports Complex.
