RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Junior midfielder Jane Tattersall scored five first-half goals while Elizabeth Barger and Karly Okamoto teamed up for three goals, as St. Francis rode a 12-1 halftime lead to a 14-7 win over Vista Del Lago in the varsity nightcap of a girls' prep lacrosse doubleheader at Mather Sports Complex Friday night.
The Troubadours win their fifth straight game to improve to 8-3 for the year. Meanwhile, the SF junior varsity snapped its win streak at six with a 16-6 loss to the Eagles in the opener.
Tattersall had all five goals as part of that 12-1 onslaught in the first half, which consisted of two separate 6-0 runs. Okamoto assisted Barger for her team's fourth goal just 2:08 into the contest, then found her on almost identical plays in the 21st and 25th minutes. The freshman attacker also scored two goals of her own, both on eight-meter chances in the eighth and 11th minutes.
The Eagles cut into that first-half lead with five unanswered goals in the second, three from the stick of senior midfielder Siri Robinson. Troubie freshman Keira Miles finally broke up what had been a scoring drought of almost 20 full minutes with her drive at the 6:24 mark, bumping the SF lead to 13-6. Brynley Hodge converted another trip to the eight-meter arc with 1:14 left to make it 14-6.
Vista largely controlled the draw – and thus, possession – in the second half, but senior goalkeeper Hayley Labia held off the attack by guarding the cage for six saves. Sophomore defender Cami Zucker also did her part with a pair of caused turnovers, while Barger came up with a key ground ball pickup inside Vista's eight to help prevent another score.
Miles and Hodge each finished with two goals and an assist. Labia, a former volleyball and tennis standout who joined the Troubie LAX squad midseason, finished with nine saves in her complete-game win.
Prior to the varsity game, Vista rolled past the depleted St. Francis jayvees to a 16-6 final, with freshman Marissa Wallin leading all players with seven goals. Zoe Smith and Chloe Tanner each had two goals for the Troubies, while Olivia Alvernaz finished with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Sofia Rainbolt tallied 10 saves in her 50 minutes in the goalie circle.
St. Francis heads into its two-week spring break, and thus will take a hiatus from competition until April 14, with a road game at Oak Ridge. The Troubies also rescheduled its home date with Granite Bay for Saturday, April 15. Varsity will take on the Grizzlies at 4 p.m. with JV following at 5:30 p.m.
