RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Junior midfielder Jane Tattersall posted career highs of six goals and five assists to lead St. Francis to an 18-6 win over Rio Americano in girls' varsity lacrosse action at Mather Sports Complex Wednesday night. The Troubadours win their third straight game to improve to 6-3 for the year.
The varsity win followed a 12-3 victory by the SF junior varsity, with Gianna Erdmann leading all scorers with three goals and three assists – all in the first half.
Tattersall led five Troubie scorers in the nightcap, as junior Brynley Hodge added five goals to go with her game-high five draw controls. Elizabeth Barger chipped in another hat trick, while Louise Morr and Karly Okamoto each netted two more goals. Okamoto also matched Tattersall's total of five assists, raising her season total to 34. She now has 18 dimes in the past three games.
St. Francis scored 11 unanswered to start the game, with Tattersall completing her hat trick by the eighth minute. Her fourth goal, on an assist from Okamoto on a trip to the eight-meter arc, made it 11-0 with 8:30 remaining. Rio's senior captain Ella Dallera ended her team's scoreless drought with two minutes left in the half, then scored the first goal after the break to cut the lead to 11-2 in the 31st minute.
However, Okamoto assisted Tattersall on the next possession to restore the running clock. Those two connected again with 5:09 remaining in the game, completing Tattersall's double hat trick and marking Okamoto's fourth assist of the second half. Hodge also scored three after the break, including back-to-back in the 35th and 38th minutes.
Wednesday's win marked the first multi-goal game for Morr, who entered the contest with four goals and an assist on the year. The senior co-captain converted an assist from Zia Smith just 2:40 after the opening draw, completed her brace on an assist from Tattersall to make it 13-2 in the 33rd minute, then assisted Barger at the end of the 42nd minute to set the board at 16-4.
This was also the sixth game with at least five goals for Hodge, who leads the Troubies with 41 this year. She becomes the first SF player to compile back-to-back 40-goal seasons since Sarah Westover, the current assistant coach who went for 45 and 50 in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
Prior to the varsity contest, Erdmann enjoyed her third hat trick of the season to pace the Troubies to the 12-3 win. Chloe Tanner provided another two goals and two assists, while Zoe Smith and Nevaeh Gavino also had two goals. Gavino normally plays a low defender position for SF, but the team switched its offensive and defensive units in the second half, meaning Gavino enjoyed her first attempts at the cage as a Troubadour. Such a move also positioned Erdmann to the back line, meaning all of her offense came before halftime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sofia Rainbolt collected five saves, four after the break.
St. Francis previously had Folsom on the schedule for a Friday doubleheader, but that date was canceled due to player availability. Instead, the Troubies return to action on Monday, hosting Rocklin as part of a 12-day homestand.
