St. Francis advances to SJS Masters tourney

IONE, Calif. – Junior Arden Han-Wei birdied four holes on the back nine to finish at 1-under-par 71 while freshman Chloe Jun posted a career-best 3-over 75, helping St. Francis place sixth as a team at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship at Castle Oaks Golf Club Monday.

The Troubadours, who finished with 429 strokes as a squad, snared one of the six qualifying berths to the SJS Masters tourney, held at The Reserve at Spanos Park on November 4.

Han-Wei was the lone SF player to steer the Castle Oaks course in order. She closed her day with a birdie-4 on the 17th, then a birdie-3 on the home hole to finish under par. Jun, who started on the 17th as part of the tourney's shotgun start, sank three pars plus back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 to card her 75.

Sophomores Nydia Garcia and Momina Niazi added matching 87s as part of the Troubies' team total, while junior Gianna Seghesio posted a 109 total. Senior Neta Tovar rounded out the SF lineup with 118 strokes.

Granite Bay dominated the field with a team total of 6-over 366, with Oak Ridge 16 strokes back in second place. Lodi (403) and Pleasant Grove (408) ended up in a battle for third and fourth, with Del Oro amassing a 423 to finish six strokes in front of St. Francis.

Missing the cut for the Masters were St. Mary's (442), Franklin (465) and Cosumnes Oaks (487).

Lodi's ClaraGrace Plath finished as the individual medalist with her 7-under 65. Oak Ridge's Bella Ransibrahmankul (68) and Iliana Rubio (70), Granite Bay's Serene Kim (69) and Sakura Watanabe (70), Pleasant Grove's Petra Yee (70) and Han-Wei were the only players to finish under par for the round.

The SJS Masters tourney begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun. The field will comprise six teams from Division I, two each from D-II and D-III, plus one each from D-IV and D-V, plus 33 total individual qualifiers.
