Troubies take on reigning NorCal champions

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Freshman Chloe Jun fired a 6-over-par 42 to lead St. Francis to a team total of 233 strokes, 41 behind winner Granite Bay, in a Sierra Foothill League girls' golf dual match at Granite Bay Golf Club Thursday.

The Troubadours slip to 6-4 for the year.

Besides Jun, St. Francis got scoring punch from junior Arden Han-Wei and sophomroe Nydia Garcia, each of whom carded matching 44s. Sophomore Momina Niazi and junior Gianna Seghesio rounded out the team score with rounds of 51 and 52, respectively. Freshman Mira Smith finished the GBGC front nine with 63 strokes.

Oddly, Granite Bay had two of its best scores from the bottom of its lineup. Khloe Chao led all players with an even-par 36, with Hailey Peterson turning in a 38. Sakura Watanabe posted a 1-over 37 at the top of the order. The Grizzlies are the reigning CIF NorCal champions and last year's fourth-place team at the state tourney.

St. Francis comes home for back-to-back SFL duals against Whitney (Tuesday) and Del Oro (Thursday) next week. Both matches take place at Haggin Oaks, with 3:30 p.m. tee times both days.
