FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Paige Quigley, junior Grace Dunham and junior Kayla Towne each finished among the top 10 individuals to lead St. Francis to a first-place total of 61 team points in the Tom Laythe Invitational girls' varsity 5-kilometer race Saturday morning. The Bella Vista-hosted meet took place at the Willow Hill Reservoir Community Park course that also serves as the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship site.
The Troubadour varsity's 61 outdueled second-place Whitney by 41 points. Galena placed third with 125, just ahead of Ponderosa (130) and Davis (140) in the 18-team, 154-runner field. St. Francis, which entered the week ranked No. 5 in the state by CAMilesplit, has now won all five meets of the 2022 season under first-year head coach Chad Worthen.
Quigley crossed in 19:40.95 for fifth place overall, while and Dunham took seventh at 19:48.81, among just nine runners to beat the 20-minute barrier for the Willow Hill course. Towne placed 10th (20:02.10), Daphne Witherell followed in 16th (20:18.31) and Ryann Strawn finished 29th (21:09.42) for the rest of the SFHS scorers. Emma Dobson and Remi Vrilakas were the team's displacing finishers in 45th and 63rd overall.
The varsity win followed an eighth-place finish by the Troubie frosh-soph in the morning 3.4-kilometer vent. Chloe' Hickey finished 29th overall at 15:14.19 while Sam Powers crossed the finish line five places and eight seconds later in 15:22.17. The remaining SF scorers were Ashlyn Smith (37th), Lena Schnack (73rd) and Caroline Kesich (75th), with Zoe Smith (80th) and Lucie Pickering Pick (98th) displacing.
The St. Francis junior varsity finished the day with a second-place showing among six teams and 75 total runners. Olivia Huerta led in fourth place at 15:59.56, while Sarah Charles, Amelia Bell, Ava Ellis, Anita White and Grace Himmelmann packed well from 12th through 19th places among them.
The Troubies return to action with select squads heading to the 43rd ASICS Clovis Invitational on October 8, an event run at the Woodwark Park state meet course.
