Another Saturday, another win for varsity cross

VACAVILLE, Calif. – Senior Paige Quigley and junior Grace Dunham finished third and fourth, respectively, to lead St. Francis to a commanding win in the varsity girls' three-mile race of the Lagoon Valley Classic cross country meet Saturday morning. Overall, the Troubadours had four runners among the top 10 en route to a winning total of 32 points, 56 more than Delta League foe Franklin.

Quigley crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 25.8 seconds, while Dunham was close behind at 19:30.1. Senior Daphne Witherell placed sixth (19:58.1), junior Kayla Towne took ninth (20:31.0), while junior Ryann Strawn rounded out the varsity scorers in 12th overall (20:50). Emma Dobson and Remi Vrilakas were displacing finishers for the Troubies in 27th and 29th, respectively.

This is the second team win for the SF varsity in as many weekends, following last Saturday's title at the Oakmont Invitational. The Lagoon Valley Classic presents a challenging course for runners ranging from club/middle school to large-school varsity divisions, with terrain features known as "Big Mama" and "Little Sister" on the two larger courses.

The St. Francis junior varsity finished third among the four-team field, scoring 62 points behind Willow Glen (56) and just ahead of Christian Brothers (64). Junior Anita White led a pack of Troubie scorers clumped between 12th and 19th places. She crossed in 16:58.6, while Chloe Rhodes-Nguyen entered the chute less than six seconds later at 17:04.0. Amelia Bell (16th), Ava Ellis (18th) and Sarah Charles (19th) rounded out the scoring placers, while Olivia Huerta (30th) and Anna Harrison (34th) displaced.

The Troubadour frosh-soph finished 11th in the largest field, consisting of 18 teams and 184 runners. Sophomore Carly Hall led the way in 19th overall place at 15:26.1, almost two minutes and some 48 places ahead of her nearest teammate, Zoe Smith (17:14.5). Freshman Chloe Harrison placed 73rd overall and third among SF runners at 17:30.1. Stella Davenport (90th) and Lucie Pickering Pick (18:17.8) accounting for the remainder of the 291 team points.

St. Francis heads into a three-week layoff from meets, ending with the Jessup Invitational at William Jessup University on September 21. That meet will provide the first look at the Delta League Championship course.
