ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Abby Alvernaz, sophomore Brynley Hodge and freshman Camdyn Zucker each recorded hat tricks while senior goalkeeper Bella McCullough logged eight saves, leading St. Francis to an 18-4 win over Roseville in Delta League girls' varsity lacrosse action Tuesday night.
The Troubadours move to 12-3 for the season and 8-1 in conference play, remaining in a tie with Davis atop the Delta League standings.
The three goals mark a career high in the young career of Zucker, who entered the contest with four career scores. Alvernaz also recorded her first career hat trick, having posted two goals on five previous occasions. Hodge, who added two assists for a game-high five points against the Tigers, raises her team-leading goals total to 46.
St. Francis also received two goals and two assists from freshman Zia Smith, making her third call-up from the junior varsity squad. The Troubie JV team was on a bye, as Roseville only fields a varsity squad. Senior Lauren Wieser and freshman Karly Okamoto matched that lead of two assists.
With at least four games remaining in the 2022 season, Hodge's 46 goals puts her in a tie for seventh in school history with Justina Burns (2011), and represents the third-highest total for a sophomore, behind only Meagan Bennett (49 in 2011) and Sophia Gorona (48 in 2019).
Senior Zahra Smith led all players with seven draw controls. That raises her season total to 77, putting her fifth in school history behind Gorona (171 in 2019, 154 in 2018), Sarah Westover (119 in 2017) and Ryleigh Bone (94 in 2015). Not surprisingly each of those players went on to play collegiate lacrosse: Gorona at UC Davis, Westover at USC and Bone at Fresno State, while Zahra Smith is headed to Delaware State.
McCullough's eight stops puts her 2022 total at 85, moving her into seventh in school history.
St. Francis returns to action on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. varsity-only game at Bella Vista.
