SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis lacrosse player Bella McCullough earned one of 18 slots on the Mexico Women's National Team roster, Federación de Lacrosse México announced via its social media channels Sunday. Team Mexico will compete at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship in Towson, Maryland, from June 29 to July 9.
A total of 18 roster players and five alternates were chosen from a tryout one week prior. McCullough is the only high school player among the 18. Several of Team Mexico's selections are current or former collegiate players from such programs as Penn and Virginia.
Mexico is among a 30-team field comprising countries from all continents, including the Haudenosaunee (which invented lacrosse). Complete information is available at www.womensworldlax2022.com.
McCullough, who signed to play collegiate lacrosse at William Penn, has 48 saves against 39 goals for a .551 save percentage, putting her on place to break Dominique Sala's 2010 school record of .546. She also has two shutouts in 2022, both against Woodcreek, while her seven-save, two-goal performance sparked a 12-3 win over Granite Bay – the Troubadours' first in the series in nine years.
St. Francis returns to action on Monday against Del Oro. Junior varsity starts at 5:30 while first draw for McCullough's varsity team is 7 p.m. at Mather Sports Complex in Rancho Cordova.
