Lee leads Troubies, advances to SJS Masters

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. — Sophomore Olivia Lee posted a team-leading 91 to lead St. Francis and earn an individual at-large berth to the section Masters Tournament, as the Troubadours placed 10th overall at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship held at Rancho Murieta Country Club Monday.

The top six teams at the section tourney plus the nine top-finishing individuals not on one of those six teams move on to the Masters competition.

Junior Julia Geer added a 93 as part of St. Francis' team total of 513. Justine Canio (105), Sophia Edwards (110) and Natalie Zipser (114) formed the remainder of the Troubies scoring effort.

"Olivia has not been playing for very long, but she has put in a lot of time and a lot of effort into her golf game," said SFHS head coach Kelli Corlett. "I think she's an awesome role model in terms of what hard work can do for somebody. I am really excited for her, really proud of her, and really looking forward to the phone call to tell her family the good news."

Granite Bay won the team title with a 376 total, 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Pleasant Grove. Meanwhile, third-place Lodi's Amelia Garibaldi carded the best individual score of a 1-under-par 71, despite tough course conditions caused by the previous weekend's rainfall.

"It was a tough day," said Corlett. "Conditions were hard for everybody, but they showed up in great spirits and gave it their best effort, which is the most important thing for me as their coach. All season long, they represented St. Francis very, very well."

The CIF-SJS Masters Tournament takes place at Stockton's Reserve at Spanos Park on November 1. The top three teams and top four at-large individuals from the section advance to the CIF NorCal tourney at Berkeley Country Club (Nov. 8), from which three teams and nine individuals will qualify for the CIF State Championship at Poppy Hills (Nov. 16).
