JV tops Rocklin to kick off league road sweep

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The foursome of Sydney Teoh, Lexi London, Laila Mendoza and Tayli Paeu-Lindgren each scored in double figures, with Mendoza adding 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year, leading St. Francis to a 64-55 win over Rocklin in the varsity nightcap of a Sierra Foothill League girls' basketball doubleheader Tuesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 11-14 for the year and 5-6 in league play. The Thunder slip to 9-15 overall with a 1-10 SFL mark.

The varsity win completed a St. Francis sweep for the night, as the SF junior varsity claimed a 37-33 win in the opener. Oddly, the Tuesday doubleheader featured the programs' assistant coaches leading the way: Angela Dusel guided the varsity squad while Melanie Perron mentored the jayvees.

Teoh scored 18 points to go with four assists and six steals, London drained three three-pointers toward her total of 15 points, Mendoza knocked down seven buckets for 14 points, while Paeu-Lindgren added 13 tallies with eight rebounds. London buried two of her treys as part of a 10-point outburst in the first period, helping SF stay in front by a 21-18 margin. She hit her third long-range shot in the second, with Teoh sinking three field goals, to keep the Troubies up, 38-26, at the halftime break.

The Troubies did most of their damage in the fourth period from the free-throw line, with Paeu-Lindgren (5-for-5), London (2-for-2) and Audrey Bashore (2-for-2) combining for an unblemished quarter at the stripe.

Paeu-Lindgren raised her season rebounds total to 315, fourth in the school's MaxPreps-era record book. Only future Pepperdine signee Lauren Craig had more: 332, 343 and 469 in her three varsity seasons, respectively.

In Tuesday's opener, freshman Emmy Cheatham buried a pair of three-pointers as part of her team-leading 16 points, while Carley Glenn and Lena Mundhenk posted rebound totals of 10 and 11, respectively. Mundhenk also had two steals and a blocked shot to earn the team's "Hard Hat Award" for hustle.

Another JV highlight belongs to Brooklyn Nauman, who made her season debut after being sidelined from preseason injury. Nauman sank a three-pointer in the second period, and added a block, steal and three rebounds. That trey, along with a three-point play from Glenn, helped St. Francis go from a 6-4 first-period deficit to a 17-12 halftime lead.

The St. Francis jayvees finish their season on a three-game homestand, starting with Thursday's 7 p.m. tip against Oak Ridge. Varsity returns to action on Friday at ORHS as part of a doubleheader with the Trojans. SF tips at 5:30 p.m., with the Marauders-Trojans matchup following at 7 p.m.
