The Sac-Joaquin Section announced on Monday that "Season 1" sport calendars (Cross Country, Volleyball, Water Polo) will commence as previously published, however, all activities are on hold pending the release of the Return-to-Play Guidelines under review by the California Department of Public Health. Those guidelines were originally expected to be released on November 16, however, they are still forthcoming from the Governor's office and there has been no indication when they will be released. Section Commissioner Michael Garrison also noted that between January 18th and 25th, a decision will be made and announced whether the section will cancel their championships for Season 1 sports. Garrison also said that once a sport is no longer on hold, there will be a minimum of 5 days of practice before competitions could take place. Revisions to our currently published competition schedules are expected.
As previously announced, St. Francis has delayed all in-person student-activities, including athletics, until January 11 at the earliest. That date coincides with the scheduled return to hybrid instruction and the resumption of COVID testing of our students. St. Francis continues to work with the Diocesan Catholic Schools Department, state and local public health authorities as well as the CIF and SJS to guide our decisions related to athletics. Stay tuned for further updates.
