CIF/SJS announcement regarding fall sports

CIF/SJS announcement regarding fall sports

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announced it has canceled regional and state championships for the sports previously designated as "Season 1" for 2020-21.  Those sports include Cross Country, Volleyball, and Water Polo.  The decision has been made in an effort to give more competition dates late in the season for all schools rather than to the limited number that would have qualified for postseason competition.

St. Francis also received notification Tuesday evening from the Sac-Joaquin Section (SJS) office announcing practices and competition within the section are on hold until the California Department of Public Health, in conjunction with the Governor's office, release return-to-activity guidelines. SJS staff will be meeting with the SJS Executive Officers and Committee in the next couple of days to discuss additional steps and timelines for the SJS.  A virtual membership meeting will take place either Friday, December 4, or Monday, December 7, to address those next steps with school representatives.

St. Francis had already announced delaying all in-person student activities, including athletics, until January 11 at the earliest.  That date coincides with the scheduled return to hybrid instruction and the resumption of COVID testing of our students.  St. Francis continues to work with the Diocesan Catholic Schools Department, state and local public health authorities as well as the CIF and SJS to guide our decisions related to athletics.  Click the link below to read the CIF release and stay tuned for further updates.
