SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Holland Sperber and Sara Ellis each scored two goals, Mia Nelson notched two assists, and Evelyn McNearney recorded her first goal in a Troubie uniform, highlighting St. Francis JV Red's 5-0 shutout of West Park in girls' prep soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
The Troubadours improve to 9-2-2 of the season. They now have won five consecutive games and extend their unbeaten streak to 10.
Nelson and Sperber combined for two goals within the first four minutes of play, then McNearney extended the SF lead to 3-0 on an assist from Isla Kirchgessner – another season first – in the ninth minute. Ellis then came off the bench for back-to-back scores in the 20th and 30th, crafting a 5-0 halftime lead. St. Francis shut down the offense and switched up positions on the field in the second half.
Aubrey Lesnau played all 80 minutes at goalkeeper, recording her first SF shutout.
Sperber's brace raises her season total to a team-leading 13. Ellis' two goals matches the total she scored against Folsom back on December 19. Nelson now has a team-leading seven assists, escaping a three-way tie with Ellis and Sperber.
St. Francis returns to action in less than 24 hours against what is arguably its toughest opponent: undefeated Oak Ridge. The JV Blue Trojans have outscored their foes by a 47-0 margin in 11 wins this season. Both St. Francis' JV Red and Oak Ridge's JV Blue rosters consists primarily of frosh players, with a few sophomores on each. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Troubadour varsity and JV Gold head to Franklin for a Delta League doubleheader for contests at 3:30 and 5:15 p.m., respectively.
