Golf Clinches Delta League Title with Center Match Win

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Ceci Fletcher shot a two-over par 74 to finish third overall and lead the St. Francis golf team to a one-stroke win in the third Delta League Center match and complete an undefeated regular season.

"I am super proud of the girls," said Head Coach Kelli Corlett, who led the team to the league title in her first season. "It was a blast watching them play all season long. It was really fun today."

Fletcher shot a career-best two-over par 74 in her final regular season match of the season, posting two birdies on her round. She carded a front-nine 39 and closed with a one-under 35 on the back with a pivotal birdie on the par-3 17th.

"Ceci has been a gem for us this year and pretty consistent," said Corlett. "Today she said she had a lot of fun out there and that is really one of the messages I try to get home to the girls – enjoy the shot and have fun. She did that and owned it."

Junior Haanya Niazi was second on the team and fifth overall with a six-over par 78. She went 41-37 split, finishing strong over the back nine with two birdies.

Senior Nashla Aguero recorded an 82 to place eighth and senior Amanda Siy had an 84 to record a ninth-place finish.

Madeline Lee was the fifth scorer for the team with an 87, while freshman Julia Geer recorded an 89.

St. Francis edged Pleasant Grove 405-406 to take the team title at the Center match for the third time this season and 11th consecutive overall. It clinched their fifth consecutive league title.

"It is really special to us," said Siy, who was part of four titles in her career. "It was nice to finish it out and carry on the legacy of all the seniors we have looked up to."

The Troubadours posted an undefeated season with a 7-0 dual match record and three 18-hole Center match wins. Overall, St. Francis has won 36 consecutive league matches (25 duals and 11 centers) and 38 consecutive league dual matches (39 overall).

The league title qualifies the team for Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Tournament on Oct. 21 at Timber Creek Golf Course.

"We are going to work on short game and especially putting," said Corlett. "But in the postseason, it is the mindset and preparing for each shot."
