SF jayvees drop road games in Rocklin, Grass Valley

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Sophomore Emmelyn Cheatham drained a pair of three-pointers as part of a team-leading 10 points for JV Gold while freshman Sadie Favreau matched that long-range work en route to nine points for JV Red, but both St. Francis sub-varsity squads posted losses in two different towns Thursday night. Gold fell at Whitney in Sierra Foothill League play by a 57-28 final, while Red fielded exactly five players in a 43-18 loss at Nevada Union.

The unusual slate took place due to a quirk in the SFL schedule. Ordinarily, both JV teams play a doubleheader on Thursday, with the varsity team taking part in a girls-boys doubleheader on Friday. However, Whitney did not field a frosh-soph team this season, forcing the Troubadours' Red quad to find a non-league opponent.

Saihej Sekhon added seven points, with a three-pointer of her own, while Keanna Daneshvar–on loan from the SF varsity team–chipped in another five tallies for Gold. The Troubies trailed by a 26-11 margin at the halftime break but rallied for 12 points in the third period. Still, the Wildcats poured in 18 in each of the final two frames to pull away to the victory.

Meanwhile in Grass Valley, Favreau hit both of her treys in the second period, with Ella Renzo making one of her own in that same frame. Still, Red's offense was no match for NU freshman Eliza Kuhn, who scored 19 of her own. Renzo finished with five points, with Natalia Esparza hitting two buckets in the fourth period. Charlotte Thomas and Isabella Uribe also played the full 32 minutes for the short-handed Troubies.

St. Francis varsity heads to Whitney on Friday to open a doubleheader, with Jesuit playing the boys' nightcap. Troubie senior Lexi London enters the game needing 23 points to eclipse 1,000 for her career. Oddly, the Wildcats' gym was the site of the previous SF player to reach this milestone: Sydney Teoh sank a free throw in the final seconds at Whitney on January 10 last season.
