JV Gold rides strong start to victory over Inderkum

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore post Perpetua Nwaukoni dominated the boards to the tune of 18 rebounds while sophomore guard Mackenzie Tan led all scorers with 16 points as St. Francis' Gold junior varsity team rode a 19-point halftime lead to a 57-36 win over Granite Bay in the consolation bracket of Christian Brothers' La Salle Classic Friday afternoon.

The Troubadours improve to 5-2 for the season and advance to Saturday's consolation final against Inderkum.

Nwaukoni had 13 of her 18 rebounds on the offensive end while scoring eight points of her own, including six in the final period. Tan drained three-pointers in the second and fourth frames, while her two buckets in the first helped SF craft a 15-5 start to the contest.

Freshman guard Colleen Medina also hit a pair of threes en route to 10 points, while Lilian Vicio matched the two treys as part of her eight-point performance. Karly Okamoto led the way with six assists and a pair of steals while adding another six points of her own.

SF led 34-15 at halftime before struggling to just five points in the third. Medina and fellow ninth-grader Reese Walker had the lone field goals in the third before SF exploded for 18 points in the finale.

The Troubies and Tigers tip off at noon on Saturday. All games in the JV bracket take place in the Jack Witry Field House, adjacent to the main gym.
