SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Ignatius swept Sacred Heart by scores of 25-20, 25-13, in the championship final of the 2024 St. Francis Parochial Athletic League tournament on Saturday. The PAL featured eight schools that, like SF, operate under the auspices of the Diocese of Sacramento.
The Tigers successfully defended their title from last year's PAL tourney. Their roster consists of eighth graders Elizabeth Bettar, Jamie Jack, Madeline Clough, Lulu Boito, Savannah Sooman and Hassanah Ramsey-Gilbert; and seventh graders Julia Bang, Olivia Szymanowski, Mila Le and Emma Colwell.
St. Mary defeated St. Michael's in the third-place match, St. John The Evangelist dispatched St. Robert in the fifth-place showdown, while St. Francis went the distance against Our Lady of the Assumpion for seventh place.
All players from all eight teams received a commemorative T-shirt for the tournament, while one performer from each garnered a second T-shirt for all-tournament honors. The PAL tournament ran on the eve of St. Francis' Open House, which takes place from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. As the name suggests, the renowned all-girls Catholic college preparatory school opens its doors for all prospective students and their families to showcase its variety of programs.
