Trojans sweep Troubies in second LAX meeting of 2025

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Junior attacker Jade Abalateo hit a pair of goals within the span of 77 seconds in the third quarter, but that turned out to be the entirety of St. Francis' scoring in a 16-2 loss to Oak Ridge in the varsity end of a Sierra Foothill League girls' lacrosse doubleheader Thursday night.

The Troubadours slip to 5-2 both overall and in league play. The Trojans improve to 7-1 for the season and take over the top of the SFL standings at 5-1, a half-game up on both SF and Del Oro. It also completes the first season series sweep for any SFL team, as St. Francis and Oak Ridge had both meetings in the first half of the slate.

After trailing 10-0 at halftime and falling behind by an 11-1 margin to start the second half, Abalateo converted a Karly Okamoto assist to put the Troubies on the board with 8:24 on the third-quarter clock. Less than two minutes later, Abalateo drew an eight-meter foul, then ripped a shot from the arc for SF's second goal. That temporarily halted the running clock, but OR's Annika Tanner drew her own foul later in the third. Instead of taking the eight-meter shot, she opted to assist Shayla Takkunen for the Trojan's 12th goal.

Other than Abalateo, the Troubies shot 0-for-10, with credit to OR goalkeeper Kaley Gunning, who came up with two stops each against SF scoring threats Keira Miles and Zia Smith.

Sophomore Claire Gabri earned a call-up to varsity to fill in at goalkeeper. She and senior Sofia Rabinovitz, who made an unlikely debut in Tuesday's win over Del Oro, split halves in the crease. Each had two saves but had to contend with Oak Ridge largely dominating possession throughout the game.

One highlight for the Troubadours was defender Chloe Tanner, who posted two caused turnovers and stuffed a Maddie LeTourneau shot in the third quarter.

The varsity loss followed a 20-1 setback for the Troubadours' junior varsity.

Both squads return to action in a week at Rocklin. First draws are 5:30 for JV, 7:15 p.m. for varsity on March 27.
