GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Sophomore Emma Dietrich qualified for championship finals in each of the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races, leading a small crew of St. Francis entrants at the Sierra Foothill League junior varsity swimming championships at Granite Bay Friday.
The 2026 league meet rolled out an unusual format, with boys' and girls' varsity prelims on Thursday, JV prelims on Friday, with finals for both divisions held during Saturday's longer session.
Dietrich was the lone Troubadour to qualify for 'A' finals from Friday's session. She finished sixth in the 200 with a time of two minutes, 13.17 seconds. Dietrich then placed fifth in the 500 free at 6:02.27.
Four other SF swimmers did earn second swims into Saturday's consolation finals. Freshman Gia Navarrete followed Dietrich in 11th in the 200 free (2:17,.67), then placed 14th (1:03.06) in the 100 free. Freshman Fiona Pope will join Navarrete in Saturday's 200 free consols, having placed 14th (2:25.75) in the prelim.
Two more freshies, Kathryn Topp and Molly Moyer, made 'B' finals in the 500 free and 100 backstroke. Topp touched home in 11th in the distance race with a 6:38.61 time, while Moyer made the cut by placing 14th in the 100 back at 1:13.27.
The Troubie jayvees will join varsity competitors Lilla Kapinya (50 free, 100 free), Mackenzie Terry (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke), Riley Wood (100 back, 200 free), Landen Didriksen (200 IM, 100 breast), Lena Moggan (200 free, 100 butterfly) and Lillian Damrell (100 free, 100 fly) in Day 3's finals session. Saturday's action begins at 9 a.m.
